Electromyography (EMG) Test: What It Is and How It Works

Electromyography is a diagnostic test that allows us to study the functionality of the muscles and connected nerves present in a given area of the body.

Using disposable needle electrodes, it is possible to record the electrical activity generated within a muscle, both at rest and during voluntary contraction.

Electromyography is used in the diagnosis of muscle and neuromuscular diseases, which are classically associated with symptoms such as tingling, numbness, muscle weakness, cramps, spasms, or paralysis of a particular anatomical region.

It is a low-risk procedure and has no absolute contraindications.

The neurologist will be responsible for interpreting the data provided by the electromyography.

The exam does not require a medical prescription and you can book it by phone or through our online booking service.
