Breath Test
What is the Breath Test?
Il Breath Test, or breath test, is a non-invasive test used for the diagnosis of food intolerances (lactose, sorbitol), or in case of suspicion of bacterial overgrowth (lactulose, glucose). The test allows to determine alterations of the gastrointestinal system and is aimed at those seeking an answer to symptoms that are often difficult to interpret, such as gas in the stomach that is difficult to pass, diarrhea, "bad" or slow digestion, bloating, constipation, flatulence and poor digestion.
How to prepare for the breath test?
BREATH TEST lactose, lactulose, glucose, sorbitol
- Avoid using antibiotics in the 7 days prior to the test
- In the 7 days preceding the test, avoid the use of probiotics (lactic ferments and also yogurt), prokinetics and laxatives
- The day before the test, the patient must eat only a plate of boiled rice seasoned with raw extra virgin olive oil, grilled or boiled meat or fish, and still water.
- In the 24 hours preceding the exam AVOID: to undergo excessive physical effort, to consume complex carbohydrates and fibre (fruit, vegetables, bread, pasta and legumes), to drink alcohol and carbonated drinks, to eat sweets and chewing gum, to use condiments with the exception of a little raw oil
- In the 12 hours preceding the exam, refrain from using non-essential medications.
- From 21.00 pm on the day before the exam the patient MUST observe a complete fasting, don't smoke ed avoid to undergo excessive physical exertion (can freely drink still water)
- Before the examination, perform an oral rinse with a chlorhexidine-based mouthwash.
- Arrive FASTING
- During the test: avoid sleeping, avoid drinking (even water), avoid smoking and inform the personnel in charge of the appearance of certain symptoms that occur at certain stages of the test.
BREATH TEST Helicobacter Pylori / Urea BT
- Avoid the use of antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors in the two weeks preceding the test.
- Avoid using antacids in the fifteen days prior to the test
- On the day of the exam, avoid brushing your teeth; if necessary, rinse your mouth with a chlorhexidine-based mouthwash.
- Arrive FASTING
- During the exam: avoid eating, drinking and smoking.
